Calis Beach, Turkey: A Hidden Gem on the Turquoise Coast
I thought no better way to kick off my blog than to share with you one of my favourite places I have ever been to ; Calis Beach, Turkey! This has been a firm favourite holiday destination for my family for my whole childhood right up until now, so stay tuned and have a read and you will soon realise why…
To begin, the beauty of this place is incredible…from gorgeous turquoise waters to sensational sunsets, this place really is a hidden gem of beauty! To catch the best views of the sunsets you should head down to Calis beach itself or head over on a speed boat to ADA restaurant to enjoy good food, cocktails and the sunset all in one! To really experience the coast and sea life head out on a boat trip with Jerry Boat, it’s an all day adventure from exploring the tranquil seas, going snorkelling with Jerry himself (you may even spot some turtles!) and the best of all the homemade lunch provided by his wife… the garlic bread is unbelievable!
As for the town of Calis itself there is plenty to explore! The Sunday market is one of my favourite day time activities, you can head down there late morning and browse around the stalls of clothing and gorgeous handmade Turkish jewellery and then grab yourself a few bits from the fresh fruit and veg to snack on and last but not least indulge yourself in the scrumptious Turkish crepes! On the promenade in the evening there is also a night market nestled into one of the side streets which boasts many local makers that have on offer unique products perfect for souvenir shopping!
One of my favourite things about coming back to Calis all the time is the amazing food they have on offer and I’m going to share with you some of my favourites! If you’re on the search for Italian, La Casa Di Mamma is the place to go, they have everything from pizza, pasta, steak and even boast some Mexican dishes such as sizzling fajitas but my go to will always be their penne pesto! On the other hand, if you’re looking for genuine Turkish cuisine I would recommend Oben Restaurant or Mozaik both of which have the most flavoursome Turkish dishes and you should definitely try out Baklava which in my opinion is the tastiest Turkish desert!
While Calis itself is quite a quiet area there are many places around the area if you are looking for something more lively on your visit. For during the day I would highly recommend Help beach, it’s a beach club nestled in the coves around the Fethiye coastline, I would usually arrive here in the late morning and enjoy the sun and the gorgeous beach and then heading into the afternoon to enjoy some of their delicious food they have on offer accompanied by a couple of cocktails and if I’m feeling brave take part in some of the watersports they have going on just in front of the beach club! Then heading into the evening if you’re staying in Calis you should head to Sundown where they have plenty of cocktails to choose from and there is always some kind of entertainment happening. If you’re looking to venture a bit further you can get a short transfer to Hisarönü where there are plenty of pubs and clubs to choose from… it can be slightly pricier here but if it’s the lively experience you are looking for this is definitely the place to go!
Overall I firmly believe Calis Beach is one the best kept holiday destination secrets! It boasts everything you could want in a holiday; gorgeous scenery, good food and is perfect for all ages to enjoy themselves!
